Examples of Customizations

Given the personal database, as described above, we will assume that a user identifies the need for a couple of customizations:
  1. When inserting the address of a person in some textual context, the user gets an error message if the database contains more than one record on the same name (``the name is ambiguous''). We want to change the behavior such that each of the possible addresses is presented for the user, and such that it is the user who decides which of them to actually insert.

  2. The telephone company changes the area codes in a systematic manner. When asking for a phone number we would like to transform old area codes to the new ones.
