"Thinking in Java" Chapter 1. You may pass lightly over the section "Interchangeable Object with Polymorphism" as this topic is covered later in the course. The sections "Java and the Internet", "Analysis and Design", "Extreme Programming", "Why Java Succeeds", "Strategy for Transition", and "Java vs. C++" are given low priority (pages 60 and on).
