Welcome! I am a professor in the Database and Programming Technologies group at the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Engineering, Science, and Medicine, Aalborg University (AAU). Before joining AAU in 2000, I held positions as industrial research fellow and database administrator at KMD (now CSC Scandihealth) for more than six years.
My research generally concerns aspects of business intelligence, i.e., topics such as multidimensional databases, data warehousing, on-line analytical processing (OLAP), data mining, data integration, etc., with a special focus on complex application areas (location-based services, web data, music, real-time integration, you name it...)
Current and recent projects: I am co-director of the Center for Data-Intensive Systems (daisy). In the Daisy Innovation project, we collaborate with local industry about data-intensive systems. In the MIRABEL project, we develop data management technologies for the next generation of smart energy grids, to enable more renewable energy production in the grid.
Past projects: In the Intelligent Sound project, we worked on the next generation of intelligent sound services. In the LandIT project, we developed technologies for data integration, data analysis, and data reduction for farming devices. In the Spatio-Temporal Data Mining for Location-Based Services project, we developed methods for discovering patterns in spatio-temporal data. In the AOBI project, we investigated the use of agile methods and open source tools for business intelligence. In the Data Management Support for Location-Based Services (LBS) project, we studied the data management foundations for ubiquitous computing, with a focus on the modeling and management of the geo-referenced aspects of reality. In the ContextIT project, we studied context-based information systems. In the Rethinking Business Intelligence for the Age of Pervasive Computing project, we developed technologies for performing real-time XML data integration and querying data streams. In the European Internet Accessibility Observatory (EIAO) project, we built an internet-scale system for monitoring and analyzing the accessibility of web pages.
List of publications in DBLP. List of publications in VBN (AAU database). My Google Scholar-based h-index (according to Harzing’s Publish or Perish) (and h14-index) is 26.
Recent courses: Data Warehousing and Machine Learning (Aalborg University, Spring 2006), Data Warehousing and Data Mining (Aalborg University, Fall 2006), Information Systems (Aarhus University, Fall 2009)
