Positive
Programming the transformations is eased by fact that the source document is valid
The validity (quality) of the target document is guarantied
The XML navigators prune the tree traversal
Realistic transformations can be done by use of a small collection of

Working with XML documents in Scheme and LAML is foreign to most XML programmers
Some aspects of XML are not yet part of LAML
The actual creation of mirrors in Scheme of XML languages via XML DTDs may be demanding
A direct and minimalistic approach to XML transformation is attractive for many Scheme programmers
